Steven Marchi, a self-taught musician, singer/songwriter was raised with a passion and love for music. He was attracted to the edgy simplicity of rockers such as Tom Petty, but was fully drawn in when he heard the songs of one particular lyrical genius for the first time; the man’s name was Jim Croce. These songs nestled in Steven Marchi for years until 1997 when he began writing his own songs. From then on, his pursuit of listening to a variety of music and writing in deep thought became his way of expression. He began hanging around the blues scene of Indianapolis, Indiana where he graced the stage at the world famous Slippery Noodle In 1999. Shy and insecure was his way as he drew himself into a shell of private sessions of reflection of self and the world around him. He headed back home to the blues scene of Chicago where struggling musicians with such delicate souls, yet deep seeded music, embraced him. Floored by his run-in with blues legend Buddy Guy and one Chicago favorite, Larry McCray, Steven Marchi really focused on the blues, but his soft touch and demeanor with his guitar and voice left no room for the fire of the “Screamin Blues”. The more subtle expressions of Jim Croce, James Taylor, Van Morrison and Nick Drake continued to draw on him and open his soul to a new union within himself.
Eventually Steven Marchi headed south to Atlanta, Georgia where he really saw what alternate tuning and finger picking was all about. Entering the acoustic scene he began playing at Eddie’s Attic, a posh little venue of eclectic musicians. Steven Marchi’s edgy pursuit of get-to-the-point writing with clever hooks and imagery have become his way. He continues to share his talents and his own style of music wherever he can.
Currently living in Atlanta, it has become apparent that somewhere along the way, although not rock, not blues, or folk, but in the mix, a blend of truth and passion for life and the experiences we all yearn to express now speaks. Steven Marchi is the new voice of awareness.
